Heart disease can develop gradually, and many pets compensate well before their family notices a problem. A new cough, reduced stamina, faster breathing at rest, fainting, or a sudden change in appetite can all be reasons to ask your veterinarian for guidance.
These signs do not always mean a heart condition, but they should not be ignored. Your veterinarian can decide whether a cardiology evaluation, echocardiogram, ECG, or blood-pressure check is appropriate for your dog or cat.
