Specialized care,expert guidance

Dr. Sophy Jesty earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Cornell University. She then continued her training at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, where she worked in equine cardiology and became board-certified in Large Animal Internal Medicine.

Sophy returned to Cornell to complete a residency in Cardiology and became board-certified as a veterinary cardiologist. She remained at Cornell for a fellowship in cardiac regenerative medicine before moving into private practice in New York City.

She later joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2015, Sophy returned to private practice at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center. She served as Medical Director from 2019 through 2026 while continuing to care for cardiac patients throughout the region.

Sophy founded SCOUT Veterinary Cardiology to make specialty cardiac care more accessible to patients in areas where cardiology services are less readily available. She is excited to work closely with primary care veterinarians and bring advanced cardiac diagnostics directly to their practices.

Dr. Valeria Tanco brings a unique blend of veterinary expertise, specialty training, and small business experience to SCOUT. A graduate of the Catholic University of Córdoba in Argentina, she earned a master’s degree in biomedical sciences and reproduction from the University of Saskatchewan and completed a residency in large and small animal reproductive medicine in 2010. She is a diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists and completed a PhD at the University of Tennessee. She also has experience in small business management and ownership.

With experience in primary care, specialty medicine, academia, and business ownership, Dr. Tanco understands both the clinical and operational details that help a veterinary team provide exceptional care. At SCOUT, she works behind the scenes to support the delivery of high-quality cardiac care for pets throughout the Lowcountry.

Outside of work, Dr. Tanco enjoys spending time with her family and two daughters, riding horses, sewing, and caring for her farm.
